Added son Joseph John born 1863

Theresa Isabella Margaret born 1866

Also added census information on father Laughlin McKinnon for years: 1851,1861,1881,1891

Laughlin died in July 1899 in con 3, lot 37, Lochiel.

Also found wife Catherine McDonell’s baptism. She was born in 1823 and was baptized in St Andrews West, Stormont, Ontario

You can access the database from The Projects front page.

Updated the information for the family of Laughlin McKinnon and Catherine McDonell. Laughlin McKinnon is not to be confused with the Laughlin McKinnon who married Catherine Grant. I have information in the Database for both families.
They both lived in the 3rd con of Lochiel.
Laughlin and Catherine McDonell were on lot 37
Lauchlin and Catherine Grant were on lot 33.

Most likely they were related. But until I find the marriage of Lauchlin McKinnon and Catherine Grant I can’t confirm. If you found it, it would help trace this line further back.

For the McKinnon McDonell family I found 5 children and the baptism of 4 of them. I did find other names in the 1861 census. Until I find all of their baptisms, I don’t know which were children or other relatives living with them.  I will also include the information found in the 1851 and 1861 census.

You will find the marriage of son Georges, born about 1863. He married Catherine McDonald in St Finnan, Alexandria in 1891.

Laughlin parents were William McKinnon and Margaret McGillis.

Project Bookstore

Designed a new skin for the Bookstore. It now matches the main Project page.

The background of the site’s main page will be changed to match the bookstore. This should make it easier to read.

Jane was the daughter of Laughlin McKinnon and Catherine Grant. I already had her siblings in the The Project’s Database, but I was missing Jane’s date of birth. She was baptized in the same church as her siblings, St Finnan, Alexandria, Lochiel, Glengarry. In 1872 she married Donald McMillan, son of John and Catherine McMaster.

Jane’s family lived on lot 33 in the 3rd concession of Lochiel. Her husband’s family lived on lot 27 in the 8th concession of Lochiel.

If you want to know if I have anyone on a certain con (concession) and lot, just click on places under the Genealogy tab, then use the search box. Next to the location’s name you will see an icon, click on it and you will get a list of names.

The Official Guide to Family Tree Maker

There are now 102 Mac/McKinnons in the database. Latest addition is of the family of Lauchlin D. McKinnon and Catherine Grant. According to a fellow researcher, Lauchlin was the son of Donald McKinnon Sr and Margaret McGregor. But I found no source yet to confirm it.

So far, I found 8 children for Lauchlin and Catherine:

Isabelle born 1838, married Duncan McDonald Jr, in Alexandria, Glengarry in 1872.

Archibald born 1841

Marcella born 1843

John born 1845

Margaret born 1851, married Ewen McMaster in Alexandria in 1870

Mary born in 1855

All born on lot 33 in the 3rd concession of Lochiel, Glengary, Ontario.

I will add Lauchlin D McKinnon and Catherine Grant in the Most Wanted section. I’ve had no luck finding where they married.

Scottish Canadian

I use Google alerts to be notified whenever something new related to my research is posted. This time it was an article on Scottish Canadian on Wikipedia The article was last modified in March 2008 and accessed only 11 times. Odd, since the article is good.

Like most Wikipedia articles it includes, See also, Links at the bottom. Many Scots who settled in Glengarry, married into French Canadian families. So reading Scots-Quebecer can help you understand how things were back then.
